No Rising Electric Rates with Solar

Image:You may have noticed that your electric bill is higher than it was this time last year but your electric usage is the same. This is because utilities have recently increased electric rates, or will be in the near future.

Locally, Black Hills Energy had a rate increase that went into effect on July 1st, 2018. Colorado Springs Utilities’ rate increase went into effect on November 1st, 2018. City of Fountain Utilities has approved a rate increase in 2018 which will go into effect on January 1st, 2019.

No matter who your utility company is, your rates will go up. Historically, electric utility rates have increased on average 5% per year since 1970. You may think you don’t have a choice when it comes to electric rate increases when actually you do. Switching to solar can eliminate the power your utility company has over you. When you switch to solar, you own your electricity, instead of renting it from the utility company. Your monthly payment will remain the same until your solar is paid in full, and then, tah dah – free electricity! Depending on which utility company you have, your monthly solar bill (which replaces your current electric utility bill) is about the same or even lower than what you would be paying the utility company.

So instead of handing your hard earned money over to the utility company landlord every month, why not invest in solar energy? The benefits include not only financial savings and independence from the utility company, but also you’re helping the environment with unlimited energy from the sun, no emissions, and reducing fossil fuel use.
